Although we haven’t written about this vision publicly before, we started building toward it in 2007 — although with the theory that to do it well, we first needed to find out how to mobilize citizens on a recurring basis (as we agree on). Overall I think the need for this approach has been pretty clear to a lot of people for a long time (after we launched I learned that Grassroots.com envisioned something at least broadly similar in 1999); the question now is who can execute on it successfully at scale. Here’s to hoping one of us does that.
